First Rotterdam, awarded BREEAM certificate of Excellence






MAB Development and Maarsen Groep have been awarded a four-star (Excellent) BREEAM-NL certificate for new construction for the design of the project FIRST Rotterdam on the Weena street in Rotterdam. The ceremony took place at MABs stand during the PROVADA real estate exhibition in Amsterdam. This was the 11th time that this certificate has been awarded in the Netherlands. During the ceremony, the Managing Director of the Dutch Green Building Council, Stefan van Uffelen, specifically mentioned the high scores in the materials category. The score of 30% was evaluated as an extraordinary performance for this transformation.

FIRST Rotterdam comprises the redevelopment of the Weenapoint in Rotterdam in several phases. Phase 1 will be a new element in Rotterdams skyline, a building providing space for a mix of urban functions such as offices, restaurants and an art gallery. The contracted lessees of the future premises - NautaDutilh and Robeco - fully endorse the BREEAM goals.

FIRST Rotterdam
Directly opposite Rotterdams new central station, at the most prominent location of the Rotterdam Central District, FIRST Rotterdam will mark the entrance into the city centre. It will be the first impression of the city for the 300,000-plus passengers who will visit the new station every day from 2015. FIRST Rotterdam will be a statement of metropolitan dynamism, its 125-metre high tower representing a new highlight of the Rotterdam skyline.

The existing Weenapoint tower will then be extensively renovated. The domed building on the inner courtyard, a national monument, will be framed in open space and green areas after the renovation. The sculptural wall by sculptor Henry Moore on the Weena will be given a prominent spot on the façade of the new building. The whole area will have a coherent mix of urban functions and will comprise a total of around 110,000 m² of office space, restaurants, hotels, shops, apartments, a public inner courtyard and parking facilities.

The high-quality architecture with international allure fits the ambitions of the Rotterdam Central District to become a portal to Europe. From 2012, the central station will grow into a public transport terminal of international, national and regional significance worthy of a European business centre, with high speed lines, the RandstadRail network, trains, metro, bus, trams and taxis.

FIRST is being developed by the FIRST CV, a joint venture between Maarsen Groep (Amsterdam) and MAB Development (The Hague). The designs for the building were created by De Architecten Cie (Amsterdam).

Vier sterren voor ontwerp First Rotterdam DGBC site


MAB Development en Maarsen Groep hebben het BREEAM-NL Nieuwbouwcertificaat van vier sterren (Excellent) voor het ontwerp van het project FIRST Rotterdam aan het Weena in Rotterdam ontvangen. De overhandiging vond plaats in de stand van MAB op de vastgoedbeurs PROVADA. Het is de 11e keer dat dit certificaat uitgereikt wordt in Nederland. Directeur van de Dutch Green Building Council Stefan van Uffelen noemde bij de uitreiking nog specifiek de hoge scoren in de categorie materialen. De score van 30% wordt beoordeeld als een heel bijzondere prestatie voor deze transformatie.

First Rotterdam omvat de herontwikkeling van het Weenapoint te Rotterdam in meerdere fasen. Fase 1 wordt een nieuwe markering in de Rotterdamse skyline. Het gebouw zal plaats bieden aan een mix van stedelijke functies waaronder kantoorruimte, horeca en een art gallery. NautaDutilh en Robeco zijn de gecontracteerde huurders van het toekomstige pand en onderschrijven de BREEAM ambitie.
First Rotterdam

Recht tegenover het nieuwe Rotterdam Centraal, op de meest prominente locatie van het Rotterdam Central District, markeert FIRST Rotterdam de entree naar de binnenstad. Het zal de eerste indruk van de stad bepalen voor de ruim 300.000 reizigers die vanaf 2015 elke dag het nieuwe Rotterdam Centraal gaan bezoeken. FIRST Rotterdam wordt een statement van grootstedelijke dynamiek. De ca. 125 meter hoge toren van FIRST zal een nieuwe highlight vormen in de Rotterdamse skyline.

De bestaande Weenapoint toren wordt vervolgens ingrijpend gerenoveerd. Het koepelgebouw op het binnenplein is een rijksmonument en krijgt na de renovatie ruimte en groen om zich heen. De sculpturale wand van beeldhouwer Henry Moore aan het Weena, krijgt een prominente plek op de gevel van het nieuwe gebouw. Het hele gebied heeft straks een doordachte mix van stedelijke functies en omvat in totaal ca. 110.000 m2 aan kantoorruimte, horeca, hotel, winkelvloeren, appartementen, een publiek binnenplein en parkeerfaciliteiten.

De hoogwaardige architectuur met internationale allure past bij de ambities van het Rotterdam Central District: de portal naar Europa. Vanaf 2012 zal het Centraal station uitgroeien tot een OV-terminal op internationaal, nationaal en regionaal niveau. Met de HSL, Randstadrail, trein, metro, bus, tram en taxi. Een Europees zakencentrum waardig.First wordt ontwikkeld door de FIRST CV, een samenwerking tussen Maarsen Groep (Amsterdam) en MAB Development (Den Haag). Het gebouw is naar het ontwerp van De Architecten Cie.
